Our mission
Through our programs and activities, Young People Connect Africa complements professional/graduate qualifications with the necessary skill set, positioning young people for marketplace opportunities. We aim to raise a generation of business leaders, problem solvers, change-makers, and entrepreneurs who enhance technological, economic, and social development across Africa.
With relevant support and collaborations, Young People Connect Africa has empowered over 10,000 Africans since 2018 with digital skills, business leadership, vocational and entrepreneurship skills through our training and incubation opportunities. This effort contributes to Africa’s educational development and technological advancement.
HOW IT STARTED
The YPC was initiated after a thoughtful and detailed study which revealed that many young people, especially undergraduates and recent graduates, do not understand the importance of possessing vocational and soft skills in today’s world. Many are focused on bagging a degree and getting a white collar job. Only very few possess skills but are faced with the challenge of combining their skills or trade with the rigors of a typical institution of higher learning in Nigeria.
A recent statistic showed that 18.8% of the entire Nigeria population are unemployed. This gure will continue to rise unless there is an intervention.
YPC seeks to bridge the gap between formal education and other forms of learning. Through strategic events, conferences and mentoring, we hope to help young people discover and realize their full potentials, support them in their ideas and connect them with people who can serve as guides in their career, professional and entrepreneurial journey. We seek to balance the skill-school equilibrium.
JOSEPH ETIM
Joseph is a brand communications and media expert, youth reformer, social entrepreneur, and leader. Joseph offers communications support for organizations and executives to improve stakeholders and community engagement. He is the founder of Young People Connect Africa: a fast-growing community of change-makers.
Joseph is also an alumnus of the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) programme, Regional Leadership Centre Accra.
Joseph, through YPCAfrica, has changed the lives of more than 4000 young Africans, equipped them with creative, independent, and employable workplace skills in the entrepreneurial and technology-driven contexts to improve Africa’s Economy and lead in social development across Africa.
Since 2018, Joseph, as Convener, has hosted the most anticipated youth Connect Conference with more than three thousand participants since inception. Through partnerships and collaborations, he has engaged, equipped, and connected young people to opportunities, impact projects, and startup ideations.
In 2019, Joseph was nominated and became the first runner-up for the prestigious FBI awards for influence through education and social good.
Joseph is certified in personal branding and career fit by Skill-Hub Business School, Nigeria. Joseph recently got certified in International Leadership and Organizational Behavior from the SDA University of Bocconi.
Joseph, with a core focus on income, influence, and impact, is known for his innovative ideas in entrepreneurship, branding, and digital business models.
